Marcela Rodríguez
Marcela Rodríguez was born in Mexico City, Mexico, on April 18th, 1951. She started learning guitar with Miguel López-Famous and later continued her studies with Abel Carlevaro. Rodríguez has studied composition with María Antonieta Lozano, Leo Brouwer, and Mario Lavista. She has also attended composition seminars at Brown University in Rhode Island, USA, and at the Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg, Germany. Her compositional style incorporates a constant use of chromatic textures with a handling of patterns that approaches minimalism. With mastery of both European and Latin-American traditions, Rodríguez has written works for solo instruments and voices as well as songs, chamber music, symphonies, concertos, and operas. Since 1979, she has worked with many distinguished Mexican directors writing music for dramas. Rodríguez is a member of the Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte (SNCA) of Mexico.
