Marc-Antonio Consoli
Italian-born composer and teacher Marc-Antonio Consoli moved to the United States in 1956. He earned a bachelor’s of music at the New York College Music in 1966, a master’s of music at the Peabody Conservatory in 1967 and Yale University in 1971, and a doctor’s of music arts at Yale in 1977. Consoli founded and directed the Musica Oggi Ensemble from 1978–1980 and served as a church music director and organist from 1988. He edited the Hargail Music Press and Rinaldo Music Press. Since 1990, he has taught as an adjunct professor at New York University.
Consoli’s honors include Guggenheim Fellowships, a Fulbright Fellowship, three grants from the National Endowment for Arts and an award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. In his works, Consoli finds inspiration in elements from Italian folk music.
