A concert inspired by extreme landscapes and human exploration begins with the New York City premiere of John Luther Adams’ Become River, a companion piece to his 2014 Pulitzer Prize-winning orchestral work, Become Ocean. This program also features world premieres of two ACO commissions: Mark Adamo’s Last Year: Concerto for Cello and String Orchestra featuring cellist Jeffrey Zeigler; and Nina C. Young’s Out of whose womb came the ice, a sonic and visual portrait of famed explorer Ernest Shackelton’s Antarctic journey (1914-17) featuring baritone David Tinervia.
