Douglas Cuomo

Composer/performer Douglas J. Cuomo is featured in a performance presented by American Composers Orchestra and Dweck Center for Contemporary Culture at the Brooklyn Public Library. Cited by AllMusic.com for his music that is "...full of astonishing turns and never predictable," Cuomo and his stellar band  perform jazz interpretations of music he has written for film and television.

American Composers Orchestra (ACO) and Dweck Center for Contemporary Culture will present Composers OutFront! Douglas J. Cuomo (composer-performer) will perform on Thursday, March 17, 2011, at 7pm at Dweck Center for Contemporary Culture (Brooklyn Public Library, 10 Grand Army Plaza, Brooklyn, NY).

Douglas J. Cuomo, composer-performer

Douglas J. Cuomo has composed highly acclaimed and original music for concert and theatrical stages, television, and film. His music, with influences from jazz, world music, classical, and popular sources, is as personal, distinctive, and recognizable as it is wide-ranging. His compositions range from well-known television themes — for Sex and the City and Now with Bill Moyers, among others — to evening-length works for theater, including Arjuna’s Dilemma, an opera-oratorio based on the story of the Bhagavad Gita.

His Black Diamond Express Train to Hell (called by the Cleveland Plain Dealer, "ecstatic...mesmerizing,...jolting and ingenious") was premiered at Carnegie Hall by the American Composers Orchestra. The piece will receive its UK premiere when Orchestra of the Swan performs it in May.

Cuomo performs with his band in a program of jazz interpretations of music he has written for film and television, putting an exciting new spin on music from shows like Sex & The City; Homicide:Life on the Street; NOW with Bill Moyers and more. Joining Cuomo will be Bob Franceschini (saxophone), Mark Soskin (piano), David Ephross (bass), and Robby Ameen (drums), an all-star cast of musicians who have played with such luminaries as Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Rollins, Joe Henderson, Paul Simon, Ruben Blades, Eddie Palmieri and many more.
