Orchestra Tech:
The Orchestra Technology Initiative

Plan of Action

Orchestra Tech is a national, five-year initiative with a range of activities that includes performance, education, research, professional development, dissemination modalities and commissioning. These activities are organized into seven component programs, each designed to have national scope and impact:

  • National Conference for Technology and the Orchestra;

  • Orchestra Tech Commissioning Program;

  • Orchestra Tech performances of new music by ACO at Carnegie Hall and other venues;

  • ACO Orchestra Underground Performance Series at the new, state-of-the-art Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall;

  • Orchestra Tech Readings & Lab for Emerging Composers;

  • Orchestra Tech at Music Factory (our high school program) and ongoing development of national exportable curriculum models; and

  • Orchestra Tech and ACO-Xchange, our online and national/international professional network.

The Orchestra Technology Conference will take place October 10 – 14, 2001 in New York City. The conference is presented by American Composers Orchestra in collaboration with the American Music Center, Carnegie Hall, MIT Media Lab, with assistance from the American Symphony Orchestra League, Parnassus Contemporary Music Foundation, Columbia University and New York University, and will bring together a diverse group of composers, technologists, conductors and other music professionals to explore together the applications of technology in the creation and performance of orchestral music.
